Driving through the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains was incredibly peaceful.  We stayed in Asheville NC where Caffrey helped Dave unpack the bikes from the truck in exchange for a beer :)  If you want a massive dose of Americana and tons of campy-touristy stuff for kids, we recommend Pigeon Forge TN, near Gatlinburg and Dollywood.  ugh!
